Accessibility

It is the goal of the Parkwood Foundation that Parkwood Estate be accessible to all visitors who wish to enjoy the rich heritage and beauty of the estate. The Foundation attempts to balance the needs of our visitors with the demands of preserving a designated National Historic Site. Funds are currently being raised to support our Accessibility Project, with the goal of having all areas of the site accessible by 2010.

Guests with mobility restrictions including those pushing strollers, guests in wheelchairs, using canes or walkers or those with difficulty walking are requested to note the following:

  • There are several handicapped parking spaces designated for your use; there is no fee to park on site

  • There is one wheelchair- accessible washroom on the estate located in the Carriage House Conference Centre directly across from the Tour Entrance

  • The first floor of the mansion is wheelchair accessible however the second floor is only available by stairs

  • The entire house tour takes approximately one hour however visitors having difficulty standing are welcome to have a seat in the chairs provided

  • The Greenhouse and Greenhouse Tearoom is only accessible by descending three stairs

  • The majority of the grounds and gardens are wheelchair accessible however guests are advised to note uneven paths and walking stones

  • A ramp is available for guests visiting the Teahouse Restaurant from the Formal Garden area

  • There are no restroom facilities at the Teahouse Restaurant. Visitors are required to use the facilities located adjacent to the Business Office in the rear of the mansion or in the Carriage House Conference Centre

  • Guests attending weddings in the Sunken Garden are asked to note that seating is only accessible by descending steps
