One of our annual favourites and most requested interpretive tour program, the basement tour, was a great hit over the McLaughlin Day long weekend (August Civic Holiday in Oshawa)
Basement tours do not require pre-booking and will be available from 10:30 to 5:00pm. Admission is $10.00 per person, regardless of age. ($11.30 with the HST)
Just like most homes, the basement at Parkwood is used for storage, and a few offices, but when the McLaughlins were in residence the basement was the industrial plant for the mansion; laundry facilities, the cannery, the boilers, the wine cellar, etc. all resided in the basement, along with the hustle and bustle of domestic staff that worked the specific areas.
The basement tour interprets these areas of the house, along with information Parkwood has collected over the years though our oral history collection program.
Stairs are required to access the basement areas of the estate.
2017 Dates: to celebrate our 100th anniversary, basement tours have been extended to a full week long celebration, McLaughlin Week, August 5 through 13
